Jordan Dunn e Michael Kvamme sono stati assunti dalla Disney per scrivere uno spin-off di Aladdin, incentrato sul personaggio interpretato da Billy Magnussen: il principe Anders.
Creato appositamente per la pellicola di Guy Ritchie, è il regnante del regno fittizio Skanland e uno dei pretendenti alla mano della principessa Jasmine. Si tratta del primo spin-off tratto da un remake live action della compagnia.
La pellicola è nelle prime fasi dello sviluppo e verrà realizzata per la piattaforma Disney+. Confermato il ritorno dei produttori del film: Dan Lin e Jonathan Eirich, con la loro casa di produzione la Rideback. Ryan Halprin della Rideback sarà il produttore esecutivo.
Il progetto nasce dallo stesso Magnussen che ha proposto un’idea ai produttori per una storia, ed è stato coinvolto assieme allo studio e alla Rideback, nell’incontro con i potenziali sceneggiatori.
Non è la prima volta che attorno al principe Anders nasce una polemica. La prima risale al casting. In molti sui social si erano lamentati dell’inserimento di un personaggio caucasico all’interno di un film con un cast che sarebbe dovuto essere composto esclusivamente da personaggi di colore.

Chiedendosi invece perché Anders dovrebbe avere un film tutto suo. L’articolo di THR dice che il personaggio ha colpito il pubblico, ma moltissimi tweet invece dicono il contrario.

Ricordiamo che sei mesi fa è stato rivelato che alla Disney è in lavorazione Aladdin 2, ma la pellicola non è stata ancora annunciata ufficialmente.
