Kevin Smith al lavoro sul sequel di Generazione X

Dopo il reboot di Jay & Silent Bob e il progettato Clerks III, Kevin Smith potrebbe dare un seguito a un altro cult della sua filmografia, Generazione X. Uscito nel 1995, titolo originale Mallrats, il film era interpretato da Jason Lee e Jeremy London nei panni di due teenager mollati dalle rispettive ragazze nello stesso giorno. Per riprendersi, i due visitano il locale centro commerciale e incontrano una galleria di personaggi bizzarri. Nel cast c’erano anche Shannen Doherty, Claire Forlani, Ben Affleck, Michael Rooker, Jay e Silent Bob in persona (ovvero Smith e Jason Mewes) e persino Stan Lee in un divertente cameo.

Il tramonto della Generazione X

In un post su Instagram in cui ha tirato le somme del 2019, “uno dei migliori anni della mia vita”, Kevin Smith ha rivelato di essere al lavoro su una sceneggiatura intitolata Twilight of the Mallrats. Suggerendo che non è detto che questo film entri in lavorazione dopo Clerks III. Ecco cosa ha scritto:

Sarà difficile che il 2020 possa paragonarsi al 2019, ma sto iniziando bene scrivendo cose che verranno dette da Brodie Bruce e company in una nuova sceneggiatura che ho intitolato Twilight of the Mallrats. Anche lo script di Clerks III è in lavorazione, quindi vedremo quale sarà il mio primo film nei ruggenti anni ’20!

2019 was seriously one of the best years of my life! So many of my dreams came true this year, as well as a few big things too dazzling to even dare dream about! From the return of @jayandsilentbob, to having my career literally cemented at the legendary @chinesetheatres, to Clerks being accepted into the @librarycongress – 2019 kept giving and giving! Sooooo glad I didn’t drop dead back in 2018, because I would’ve missed all the stuff I listed with my pic. It’s gonna be hard for 2020 to measure up to 2019 – but I’m off to a fun start by writing stuff for Brodie Bruce & Co. to say in the new script I’m calling TWILIGHT OF THE MALLRATS! The CLERKS III script is also underway, so we’ll see which flick will be my first film of the roaring 20’s! But tonight, I end the year like I always do – standing on the stage at the @hollywoodimprov with @ralphgarman, making BABBLE until the Ball drops (a few tix left at the link in my bio)! It was a decade that began badly with COP OUT and the TOO FAT TO FLY incident. The decade of the Red State Tour, @tuskthemovie and @yogahosers! It was the decade in which I almost died of a massive heart attack, and the decade where I went Vegan and got down to my high school weight! Nostalgia canaglia?

Ancora non ci sono notizie sull’uscita di Jay and Silent Bob Reboot in Italia. Di Clerks III, invece, conosciamo già la trama, che sarà molto autobiografica per Smith. Eccola:

Randal ha un attacco cardiaco. Capisce di aver sfiorato la morte e che nella sua vita non ha combinato nulla. Non c’è nessuno a commemorarlo, non ha famiglia, niente del genere. Durante il recupero, mentre è sotto fentanyl, arriva a una conclusione. Alla mezza età, dopo essere quasi morto, dopo aver lavorato per tutta la vita in un negozio di video e aver guardato i film degli altri, dice a Dante: “Penso che dobbiamo fare un film”. Così Dante e Randal girano Clerks.
