Le nomination della 47esima edizione degli Annie Award sono state da poco rivelate, e ci hanno parecchio sorpreso. Il titolo per il miglior film animato dell’anno è conteso da Frozen 2 (Disney), Missing Link (Laika), Dragon Trainer 3: Il mondo nascosto (DreamWorks Animation), Klaus (Netflix) e Toy Story 4 (Pixar).

Mentre Buñuel in the Labyrinth of the Turtles (Hampa Animation Studio), Okko’s Inn (Madhouse), Promare (TRIGGER, XFLAG) e Weathering With You (CoMix Wave Films) distribuiti da GKIDSDov’è il mio corpo (Netflix), si contendono il titolo di miglior film animato indipendente. Il film di Makoto Shinkai è nominato anche nelle categorie: migliori effetti speciali, sceneggiatura e regia, è la prima volta che un film di GKIDS ottiene tutte queste nomination.

Per quanto riguarda i film in gara, conducono con 8 nomination Frozen 2 (regia, sceneggiatura, doppiaggio Olaf, musica, effetti, character animation e character design) e Missing Link (regia, doppiaggio Jin, effetti, character animation, production design, montaggio e due per lo storyboarding). Il totale delle nomination della DWA ammonta a 19 mentre quelle della Disney sono in totale 28. Comprendono le 2 di Spie senza copertura dei Blue Sky Studios e quella di Star Wars Galaxy of Adventures della Lucasfilm. Tre nomination per gli Amazon Studios tra cui quella di Undone nella categoria Best TV/Media – General Audience.

I film Alita: Battle Angel, Avengers: Endgame, Game of Thrones, Pokémon Detective Pikachu e Spider-Man: Far From Home concorrono per la miglior animazione di un personaggio in un film live action.
Il re leone è dunque assente sia nelle categorie d’animazione che live action degli Annie, non sappiamo però se lo studio ha candidato o meno la pellicola. Nel campo televisivo notiamo invece l’assenza di Primal di Genndy Tartakovsky.

Il premio alla carriera Winsor McCay Award verrà consegnato quest’anno a Henry Selick, Ron Clements e John Musker, e postumo a Satoshi Kon.
