Annie Awards: Soul e Wolfwalkers ottengono 10 nomination

Le nomination della 48ma edizione degli Annie Awards sono state annunciate questo pomeriggio dall’ASIFA-Hollywood. Soul e Wolfwalkers hanno ottenuto 10 nomination ciascuno, entrambi per regia, animazione dei personaggi, character design, FX, musica, production design, storyboard e sceneggiatura.

Si contendono il premio per il miglior lungometraggio: due film Pixar ovvero Onward e Soul, per la DreamWorks Animation I Croods 2: una nuova era e Trolls World Tour e infine per la BRON Animation, La famiglia Willoughby.
Negli ultimi cinque anni, per quattro volte il vincitore della categoria per il miglior film ha poi vinto il premio per il miglior lungometraggio animato agli Oscar.

Nella categoria per il miglior film indipendente sono stati nominati: Shaun Vita da Pecora – Farmageddon il film dell’Aardman, Calamity Jane di Maybe Movies, On-Gaku: Our Sound della Rock’n Roll Mountain/Tip Top, Ride Your Wave dello Science SARU e infine Wolfwalkers di Cartoon Saloon/Melusine. L’anno scorso I Lost My Body è finito nella cinquina, possiamo aspettarci che qualcuno di questi titoli riesca a finire nella cinquina?

I registi candidati sono: Rémi Chayé (Calamity Jane), Glen Keane (Over the Moon), Masaaki Yuasa (Ride Your Wave), Pete Docter & Kemp Powers (Soul) e Tomm Moore & Ross Stewart (Wolfwalkers).

Earwig e la strega dello Studio Ghibli ha ricevuto due candidature: lo storyboard di Goro Miyazaki e la doppiatrice di Bella Yaga.

Le nomination per studio

Netflix ha ricevuto il maggior numero di candidature: 40. Oltre a Over the Moon, Willoughbys e Farmageddon (in USA è uscito sulla piattaforma), la piattaforma ha ricevuto delle nomination per Hilda, The Midnight Gospel, Bojack Horseman, Big Mouth, Alien Xmas,  The Christmas Chronicles 2, The Umbrella Academy, Blood of Zeus, Trash Truck, Buddi, She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, Fast & Furious: Spy Racers, Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous, Tales of Arcadia: Wizards, Dragons Rescue Riders, Cops and Robbers, If Anything Happens I Love You e le serie giapponesi: Transformers: War for Cybertron Trilogy, BNA e The Great Pretender.

Pixar e DreamWorks Animation hanno ricevuto 20 nomination l’uno, seguono Cartoon Saloon con 11, Disney con 9, Cartoon Network con 7, Warner Bros. Animation con 6, Nickelodeon con 5 e Lucasfilm con 3. In totale Disney ne ha ottenute 32.

Premi speciali

Il premio alla carriera Winsor McCay Award verrà consegnato al designer Willie Ito (Warner Bros., Hanna Barbera, Disney TV); al character animator, regista e produttore Bruce Smith; e postumo a Sue Nichols (La Bella e la Bestia, Aladdin, Il re leone, Mulan e Brave.

Il June Foray Award per l’impatto benevolo o caritatevole nell’industria dell’animazione verrà dato a Daisuke “Dice” Tsutsumi, co-fondatore della Tonko House, per aver dato vita al Totoro Forest Project e a Sketchtravel.

Epic Games riceverà l’Up Iwerks Award per il progresso tecnico per lo sviluppo dello strumento di creazione 3D in tempo reale di Unreal Engine.

Lo Special Achievement Award verrà consegnato al documentario Howard, dedicato a Howard Ashman, il paroliere che ha collaborato con il compositore Alan Menken alla musica di La piccola bottega degli orrori, La sirenetta, La Bella e la Bestia e Aladdin.

I vincitori verranno annunciati con una cerimonia virtuale il 16 aprile alle 7 p.m. PT.
