Gotham Awards – Tutti i titoli nominati nella categoria miglior film sono diretti da donne

L’Awards season è ufficialmente iniziata. Oggi pomeriggio sono state annunciate le nomination dei Gotham Awards, prodotti dagli Independent Filmmaker Project, che quest’anno celebra il 30° anniversario.

First Cow ha ricevuto il maggior numero di candidature (film, attore, sceneggiatura, attore emergente (Orion Lee)). Nomadland, Miss Juneteenth, The 40-Year-Old Version, Sto pensando di finirla qui e The Nest hanno ricevuto due nomination ciascuno.

Per la prima volta nella storia dei Gotham, i film di questa categoria sono tutti diretti da donne: The Assistant (Kitty Green), First Cow (Kelly Reichardt), Never Rarely Sometimes Always (Eliza Hittman), Nomadland (Chloé Zhao) e Relic (Natalie Erika James).

Nella categoria per il miglior attore, una nomination postuma per Chadwick Boseman (Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom), troviamo inoltre Riz Ahmed (Sound of Metal), Jude Law (The Nest), John Magaro (First Cow) e Jesse Plemons (Sto pensando di finirla qui).

Segnaliamo nella categoria per il miglior film straniero la presenza di Cuties, Martin Eden e del lungometraggio animato Wolfwalkers.

ELEGIBILITA’

Per questa edizione sono presi in considerazione i film usciti fino al 28 febbraio 2021, sia al cinema che in PVOD, ecco perché troviamo pellicole come Minari e Nomadland.

Non hanno potuto partecipare le pellicole con un budget superiore ai $35 milioni. Non erano eleggibili: Da 5 Bloods di Spike Lee, Mank di David Fincher, The Midnight Sky di George Clooney e The Prom di Ryan Murphy.
