Margaret Nolan, attrice e modella famosa soprattutto per aver posato, dipinta d’oro, nella leggendaria sequenza dei titoli di testa di Agente 007 – Missione Goldfinger, è scomparsa a 76 anni lo scorso 5 ottobre. Nel corso della sua vita, Nolan ha anche lavorato come artista visiva, creando grafiche e grotteschi fotomontaggi.
Dagli anni ’60 in avanti ha preso parte a svariate serie TV e film, spesso in ruoli minori. Tra questi ricordiamo Tutti per uno, alias A Hard Day’s Night, il primo film dei Beatles. La commedia Niente sesso, siamo inglesi. E Il grande inquisitore, storico horror con Vincent Price. Inoltre, ha recitato spesso nella serie di film comici Carry On, molto popolari in Gran Bretagna.
Quello in Goldfinger, comunque, resta il suo ingaggio più celebre. Oltre a partecipare ai titoli di testa, creati da Robert Brownjohn, Margaret Nolan ebbe anche un ruolo nel film. Quello di Dink, la massaggiatrice che Bond incontra nel film.
Nel 2011 era tornata a recitare, dopo 25 anni di assenza dalle scene, nel film The Power of Three di Yvonne Deutschman. Inoltre, aveva appena girato una parte in Last Night in Soho, il nuovo, attesissimo film di Edgar Wright. Proprio il regista ha postato sul suo profilo Twitter un sentito omaggio a Margaret Nolan:
È mio triste dovere informarvi che la magnifica attrice e artista Margaret Nolan è scomparsa. Era al centro di un diagramma di Venn di tutto ciò che era cool negli anni ’60, avendo recitato con i Beatles, essendo apparsa in un ruolo oltremodo iconico in Bond ed essendo stata parte del cast di Carry On.
Si è occupata molto di teatro politico e, di recente, aveva creato arte visiva, decostruendo la sua stessa carriera da modella in una serie di fotomontaggi.
Ho lavorato con lei l’anno scorso, perché interpreta un piccolo ruolo in Last Night in Soho. Era simpaticissima, molto intelligente e, come potrete immaginare, conosceva molti fantastici aneddoti. Sono così felice di averla potuta conoscere. Il mio affetto va alla sua famiglia e alle persone che l’amavano. Ci mancherà molto.

P.S. È anche il solo elemento brillante in una rock comedy molto strana, Toomorrow [in Italia, Together]. L’anno scorso le ho detto che ne avevo rintracciato una copia ed era rimasta sconcertata dal fatto che mi fossi preso la briga di guardarla.

She also appeared in five Spike Milligan Q series, Steptoe & Son, The Likely Lads, Morecambe & Wise and The Sweeney. I worked with her last year as she plays a small role in Last Night In Soho. She was so funny, sharp and, as you might imagine, full of the most amazing stories. I’m so glad I got to know her. NB. She’s also the lone bright and funny spot in the very strange rock comedy ‘Toomorrow’. I told her earlier in the year that I had tracked down a copy and she was very bemused that I had bothered to watch it.
