The Irishman di Martin Scorsese è stato eletto come il miglior film dell’anno dalla National Board of Review, si tratta di una vittoria importante per Netflix visto che Roma non ha ricevuto questo onore ma è finito nella Top 10 della NBR.
NBR e AMPAS non sono quasi mai d’accordo sul miglior film dell’anno, a parte l’anno scorso con Green Book e nel 2008 con Slumdog Millionaire.
Prima importante vittoria per Richard Jewell, che ha visto premiata Kathy Bates per la sua performance come miglior attrice non protagonista nel film di Clint Eastwood. Paul Walter Hause ha inoltre vinto come miglior attore emergente.
Brad Pitt è stato premiato per il suo ruolo in C’era una volta…a Hollywood mentre il suo regista Quentin Tarantino è stato incoronato come miglior regista dell’anno.
Adam Sandler (Uncut Gems) è il miglior attore, inoltre il film dei fratelli Safdie vince nella categoria per la miglior sceneggiatura. A pochi giorni dalla sua vittoria ai British Independent Film Awards come miglior attrice, Renee Zellweger fa il bis alla NBR aggiudicandosi la statuetta per la sua interpretazione di Judy Garland.
Parasite ha vinto come miglior film straniero mentre DragonTrainer: Il mondo nascosto come miglior lungometraggio animato.
