In questa categoria concorre contro Narcos: Mexico, This Is Us, The Affair, Homeland e Ozark.

Atlanta, Barry, GLOW, The Good Place e The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel sono stati candidati per la miglior serie comica, ma nessuno di questi show ha ricevuto una candidatura per la miglior sceneggiatura di un episodio a parte Barry, dove se la vedrà con Forever, Santa Clarita Diet, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, The Kids Are Alright e Orange Is the New Black. Barry è stato nominato anche in Nuove serie con The Haunting of Hill House, Homecoming, Pose e Succession.

HBO ha ben due miniserie nominate nella categoria originale: My Dinner With Herve e Paterno, la terza candidatura è Castle Rock di Hulu. In quelle adattate troviamo The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story, The Looming Tower, Maniac e Sharp Objects.
