La 72ma edizione dei Tony Awards tenutasi ieri sera al Radio City Music Hall a New York, presentata da Josh Groban e Sara Bareilles, è stata dominata dalle vittorie di The Band’s Visit: miglior musical, regia, Original Score, Book, attore protagonista (Tony Shaloub) e attrice protagonista (Katrina Lenk) e di Harry Potter e la Maledizione dell’Erede: miglior opera, regia, Scenic Design, Lighting Design, Sound Design e costumi.
I musical di Frozen e Mean Girls sono rimasti a bocca asciutta. Mentre SpongeBob SquarePants: The Broadway Musical ha vinto nella categoria Scenic Design per un Musical.
Angels in America, il dramma in 2 parti sulla crisi dell’AIDS è stato premiato come migliore revival, mentre Once on This Island si è portato a casa solo una statuetta (miglior revival di un musical) nonostante le sue 8 nomination.
Premiati anche: Andrew Garfield (Angels in America) come miglior protagonista di un’opera teatrale, Nathan Lane (Angels in America) per la miglior performance , Laurie Metcalf (Three Tall Women) per la miglior performance e l’attrice premio Oscar Glenda Jackson per la miglior performance di un attrice protagonista in Three Tall Women.
Ricordiamo che erano stati nominati anche Denzel Washington, Mark Rylance, Michael Cera, Amy Schumer e Lauren Ambrose.
