Da questa settimana Il Libro della Giungla comincerà ad uscire nei primi mercati internazionali, in Italia dovremmo attendere il 14 aprile e in America il 15 per poter vedere la pellicola diretta da Jon Favreau. Ma grazie alle anteprime della stampa, sabato sono apparse le prime reazioni su Twitter che elogiano la pellicola, arrivando a definirla un film migliore della controparte animata. Anche il 3D utilizzato è stato molto apprezzato, e in questo caso si è parlata di una qualità ai livelli di Avatar.

Hollywood had ruined the 3D experience by releasing such terrible 3D movies. THE JUNGLE BOOK is a great example of 3D done right.

La vera star del nuovo adattamento della Disney di Il Libro della Giungla è una tigre parlante realizzata al computer… Il film ricorda una versione per famiglie di The Revenant… Tutto questo è abilmente orchestrato da Favreau, che riesce a bilanciare lo spettacolo e l’emozione con lo stesso tocco intuitivo che ci ha fatto apprezzare così tanto il film d’avventura per famiglie del 2005 Zathura. Il film avrebbe potuto essere una raccolta di monotoni showcase tecnici, ma Favreau gli dà un reale fascino analogico.

Il meraviglioso approccio permette a Favreau di intrecciare organicamente la musica della versione animata del ’67 in un modo che non è forzato per poter piacere al fantasma di Walt Disney. Il Libro della Giungla è un libro di fiabe che prende vita con l’essenza della vecchia scuola Disney.

A questo libro potrebbe mancare l’avanspettacolo del suo predecessore, ma il regista Jon Favreau e un team di maghi degli effetti ci fa immergere in uno dei mondi artificiali più coinvolgenti del grande schermo dai tempi di Avatar. (Per non parlare delle più convincenti creature che parlano dai tempi di Babe).
Il film sarebbe stato migliore se servito o col taglio completo dei numeri (musicali) o realizzandoli tutti. A parte questo passo falso, Il libro della giungla offre una storia sulla crescita che non si perde nel folto della tecnologia che l’ha reso possibile.

Anche se il dramma e il suo trattamento diventano sempre più convenzionali e familiari man mano che il film si muove verso la parte finale che piacerà e forse eccessivamente) al pubblico, l’eccezionale qualità visiva e le creazioni degli animali realistici rimangono sbalorditive durante il tutto. Favreau e il direttore della fotografia Bill Pope muovono vigorosamente la cinepresa, ma i momenti più tranquilli, e il team degli effetti visivi guidato da Robert Legato e Adam Valdez ha creato delle ambientazioni sontuose che sembrano realistiche quanto qualsiasi CGI presentata in precedenza in un film dello studio ed integra gli esseri umani e gli animali al suo interno in un modo perfetto.

Mantenendo un battito vivace sotto quella carne digitale, Favreau non perde mai di vista che sta raccontando una storia d’avventura per bambini – una cosa di non poco conto in un paesaggio di pellicole per bambini inondato di reboot impropriamente realistici e con frenetici elementi di distrazione – e la parola positiva del bocca a bocca arriva per sostenere tutti gli sforzi di marketing della Disney, lo studio dovrebbe avere un successo sostanziale nelle proprie mani.

Lo sceneggiatore Justin Marks non cerca di reinventare i racconti di Kipling, o di reiterare lo script del film d’animazione, ma di sintetizzare i due in un pacchetto a strati sulla maturità. In realtà, i fan di entrambi – inclusi i temi più oscuri presenti sulla carta, e le incantevoli melodie come Lo stretto necessario e Voglio essere come te che hanno aiutato il primo film Disney a ottenere uno status accattivante e duraturo – dovrebbe essere contenti. Il film fedele ma divertente continuerà ad affascinare le famiglie, con un maneggiamento curato e delicato dei contenuti più tetri.

Il Libro della Giungla è molto meglio di quello che dovrebbe essere e probabilmente ha il diritto di esserlo. Pensavo che sarebbe stato un altro film di Hollywood imbottito di effetti, ma che si è rivelato una cannonata visivamente ed emotivamente. Forse più registi dovrebbero fare “film indipendenti” sabbatici. Favreau ha preso qualcosa che probabilmente avrebbe sofferto nelle mani di molti registi che non sono appena usciti da un progetto di ‘sole ossa’. L’ha mantenuto asciutto. Sul punto e a fuoco. L’ha reso grande.
