Dragon Trainer 2 e i corti di Topolino stravincono agli Annie Awards

Dopo la vittoria di stanotte alla 42ma edizione degli Annie Awards come miglior lungometraggio animato dell’anno, Dragon Trainer 2 diventa il favorito per la vittoria nella medesima categoria agli Oscar 2015. La pellicola della DreamWorks Animation si è portata a casa altri 5 premi: regia (Dean DeBlois), animazione dei personaggi (Fabio Lignini), musiche (John Powell e Jónsi), montaggio e storyboard.

Phil Lord e Chris Miller (The Lego Movie) hanno ricevuto il premio per la miglior sceneggiatura, quello per il miglior character designer è andato a Paul Sullivan, Sandra Equihua, Jorge R. Gutierrez per Il libro della vita; Michael Kaschalk, Peter DeMund, David Hutchins, Henrik Falt, John Kosnik di Big Hero 6 si sono portati a casa il premio per i migliori effetti speciali, mentre Boxtrolls si è portato a casa 2 premi: quello per il miglior doppiaggio (Ben Kingsley) e production design (Paul Lasaine, Tom McClure, August Hall). A bocca asciutta invece il film di Isao Takahata dello Studio Ghibli, La storia della principessa splendente che era stato candidato in tre categorie e Song of the Sea di Tom Moore della Cartoon Saloon nominato in sette categorie.

Il premio per il miglior corto è andato a Winston di Patrick Osborne. Le vittorie in campo televisivo sono state dominate invece dai corti di Topolino, Mickey Mouse: doppiaggio, sceneggiatura, montaggio, regia e musiche. I Simpson hanno vinto il premio best general audience TV program marcando la loro 13a vittoria agli Annie, il miglior programma per bambini è andato a Gravity Falls, mentre quello per un pubblico di prescolari è andato a Tumble Leaf, prodotta da Amazon, segnando la prima vittoria agli Annie di una serie animata ideata per il servizio streaming. Legend of Korra ha vinto il premio per il miglior storyboard in una serie animata, mentre Wander Over Yonder si porta a casa solamente due premi per il character design e l’animazione dei personaggi.
Grandi assenti tra i vincitori lo speciale della Pixar Toy Story That Time Forgot (7 nomination), Over the Garden Wall e Adventure Time, per il quale Masaaki Yuasa e Eunyoung Choi avevano ricevuto una nomination per la regia, vinta invece da Aaron Springer (Mickey Mouse).
