Jimmy Kimmel e Kerry Washington hanno annunciato nella mattina americana le nomination per la 64^ edizione degli Emmy Awards, il principale premio televisivo assegnato dall’Academy della tv americana. Come da qualche anno a questa parte il ruolo della padrona lo fa la tv via cavo che monopolizza le nomination per i drama e le miniserie, e ottiene ottimi risultati anche tra le comedy.
6 i candidati a miglior serie drammatica: Boardwalk Empire, Breaking Bad, Downton Abbey, Homeland, Mad Men, Il trono di spade. Tra gli attori spiccano Steve Buscemi per il gangster-drama di HBO e Michael C. Hall per Dexter, tra le attrici Glenn Close per Damages, Julianna Margulies per The Good Wife e Kathy Bates per il sottovalutato Harry’s Law.
Altrettante le comedy in lizza: The Big Bang Theory, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Girls, Modern Family, 30 Rock, Veep. Gli attori più papabili per il premio sono Don Cheadle per House of Lies e Louis C. K. per Louie, mentre al femminile in pole position ci sono Edie Falco per Nurse Jackie, Zooey Deschanel per New Girl e Melissa Mccarthy per Mike & Molly.
Tra le miniserie e i tv-movie il grande favorito è American Horror Story, che guadagna 17 nomination tra premi principali e tecnici: oltre alla miglior miniserie (assieme a calibri come Game Change, Luther e Sherlock), vede nominati anche Connie Britton, Dennis O’Hare, Frances Conroy e Jessica Lange, questi ultimi 3 tra i non protagonisti assieme a Peter Dinklage (Il trono di spade), Maggie Smith (Downton Abbey), Martin Freeman (Sherlock), David Strathairn (Hemingway & Gellhorn) e Judy Davis (Page Eight).
Una messe di nominati particolarmente ricca e qualificata che se si fa notare per qualche assenza – per esempio Boss e Kelsey Grammer – colpisce per la presenza di moltissimi attori e pre una ricerca sempre più acuta di un tv che possa affrontare a testa alta la crisi. E di certo, non è quella generalista, costretta a inseguire pubblico e pubblicitari anziché il valore del prodotto, per lo meno non sempre.
