Figlio del famoso attore Vittorio Gassman e di Juliette Mayniel, Alessandro studia recitazione presso la Bottega Teatrale di Firenze. Molto amico di Gianmarco Tognazzi, inizia con lui un sodalizio artistico che li ha visti recitare insieme in molti film. Tra le sue interpretazioni ricordiamo quella in Caos calmo, che lo porta a vincere diversi premi nazionali.
